What You’ll Be Doing

• Compaction Mastery: Execute proper rolling patterns (breakdown, intermediate, and finish) to reach required density without over-compacting.

• Temperature Management: Monitor mat temperatures to ensure rolling happens in the “sweet spot” before the mix stays tender or gets too cold.

• Joint & Edge Work: Expertly pinch longitudinal and transverse joints to create seamless transitions.

• Equipment Care: Daily maintenance of the roller, including cleaning the drums, checking scrapers, and ensuring the spray system is clear.

What We’re Looking For

• Proven Seat Time: Minimum 1-2 years of experience operating breakdown and finish rollers.

• Technical Eye: Ability to spot “checking”, shoving, or displacement in real-time and adjust your pattern accordingly.

• Consistency: You understand that the speed of the roller must match the speed of the paver.

• Technical Precision: Maintain “Head of Material” and manage screed adjustments to prevent “open” or bony textures.

• Team Mentality: Coordinate with the roller operator, rake/lute crew, and dump truck drivers to ensure a continuous, high-quality pour.

• Equipment Care: Perform daily pre-start inspections and ensure machines are cleaned and properly greased at the end of the shift.
